Bradley.Basso: Architectural Glass Art installation for Chigwell Drama Centre
Theatrical analogies in space
Architectural glass art installation for the New Drama Centre
Chigwell School – Essex UK
The new drama building provides a high-profile modern addition, denoting the importance of the arts in education and the wider cultural aspirations of the school.

Section from Trilogy: Music, Words, Dance, 2004. Etched and sandblasted glass, resin filled, applied glass and stainless steel rods.
The proposed suspended glass feature, within the foyer’s lofty double-height space, would provide a visual and artistic focus for the building and the school as a whole.
The foyer, catering for the audience during performances, acts as an informal front door to the school for many first-time visitors and is seen as a place where the school can promote its identity.

Details from Words panel, showing space-light interaction on glass, and original design.
The final design, showing a composite image of the three layers, has been conceived as an integral element of the window opening and the architectural structure of the foyer.
The intention being to create in the space a reference to the theatrical activities of the performance area, with light and shadow, colour and movement, transmission and reflection, a participatory theatrical experience
