Modular suspension: ordering space
Architectural glass art installation: Colour, Light and Health
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London SW10
A five-floor lift shaft art installation proposal showing the equivalent area of glass suspended to exploit light and colour in relation to the site, as well as for its possible connections to health. Colour as a metaphor for health, an inspiration for cure.

Glass module section Colour, Light and Health, 2004.
Aiming to integrate with the architectural structure, the grid layout is used to achieve an order in space. The modular format of the design and suspended glass bridges human proportions and those of the building.

Technical design detail and full design installation, showing the connection between human proportions, the grid installation proposed and the architectural layout of the building.

Optically it acts as an ordering system, allowing the varied colours and diverse forms in the design to co-exist within the architectural grid, to achieve an order in space.
Colour tests were recorded in different intensities of natural light using the floor levels facing the atrium as ‘steps’. The bright hues of yellow and red appeared maximally intensified with sunshire or strong light, but deep hues of blue became intensified with less light.
